Why Pool & Spa Professionals Need to Stay Active in the 2021 Off-Season

Where did the past year and a half go? If you work in the pool and spa industry you probably have a major kink in your neck at this point because you haven’t had a chance to look up since early 2020. The slower season is in sight and you may be anxiously anticipating a bit of a breather, but don’t completely step away from the wheel. If there’s anything we’ve learned in the past two years, the last thing you want to do is lose momentum. We’re here to explain why pool & spa professionals need to stay active in the 2021 off-season.

New Customers Need Extra Attention

You’ve probably sold a lot more pools, hot tubs, or related products in 2020 and 2021 than you ever imagined selling. That means that you’ve really grown your customer base—which is great—but it also means that there are a lot more new pool and spa customers out there.

New pool and spa owners typically need more attention than those who have a few years under their belts. They need advice on which chemicals to use and whether or not they should add extra elements to their backyard setups. It’s wonderful that you’ve added so many customers to your roster, but you want to keep them there. Staying on top of your marketing strategy during the off-season means that new customers know who to turn to when they have questions.

Keep them informed about what you offer, whether it’s chemicals, professional servicing, or additional recreation products. That way, you’ll build trust and maintain all of those new relationships during the slower months.

Loyal Customers Could Use Some Care Too

In all of the chaos you may not have had a chance to give your loyal customers the attention that they would normally get and deserve. Now that you have a bit of time it’s a perfect opportunity to let them know that you’re still there for them.

Formulate a plan to reach out to your long-time customers and let them know that you appreciate all of their business over the years. Remind them of everything you have to offer and be sure to keep them up-to-date with pool industry shortages and product alternatives. You may even have some new products or services that you haven’t had a chance to tell them about. Now is the time.

Previous Strategies Might Need a Tweak

Let’s face it, you probably haven’t had a moment to think in quite a while. Business has come in without a lot of effort. There’s been plenty of labor put forth, but it likely hasn’t been spent on bringing in customers. The reality is that no one really knows when this unprecedented customer onslaught is going to end. That said, when it does, you want to be prepared.

Using the off-season to do some formulating is a nice change of pace and it gives you peace of mind too.
